KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Building Society Bhd (MBSB) has announced the demise of its chairman, Tan Sri Azlan Zainol.

In a statement, the group said Azlan, 72, passed away at 2.40pm at a private hospital in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Azlan helmed the group from March 2021, bringing with him over 30 years of banking experience and a strong background in accountancy. He was also the chairman of MBSB Bank Bhd.

According to the group, Azlan was widely known for his firm and result oriented leadership style.

It said he was behind the implementation of successful initiatives at MBSB, including the Sustainability Framework that was completed in the third quarter of 2022.

"Tan Sri Azlan was a respected figure in the banking industry and carried a wealth of expertise in banking and business strategy.

"MBSB Group is privileged to have had his guidance and executive leadership. He left no room for complacency and that was how he brought positive changes to the group and oversaw the development of the group’s Sustainability Framework.

"I pray for his family to be given the strength during this difficult time,” said MBSB Group CEO Datuk Nor Azam M Taib.

Azlan leaves behind his wife, Puan Sri Laili Hassan, four children and six grandchildren.
